Last minute vacation- Trip to Michigan!

2008, August 18- 25:
Our travels to Michigan started here in Maryland. It was a 10 hour drive. My dad drove the whole way! We had many potty stops but we made it!! We drove by some neat places on this trip but unfortunately couldn't stop to see them. Maybe next time we will stop at such sites as the famous Thomas A. Edison's birthtown of Milan, Ohio; and the first LDS (Mormon) temple at Kirkland, Ohio.

Below: Tuesday a.m., park near U.T.'s home.

Tues. p.m. Hawthorn Park - after eating a very yummy ice-cream cone!

Wednesday lunch time: We went to Uncle Sergio's and Aunt Daisy's.

We had a pleasant week visiting with family in Michigan. Greg had to stay in MD. to work, but me, our four boys and my parents had a wonderful bonding experience. My mom and dad both have a brother each that lives there, plus other relatives, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends. My boys and I stayed at Uncle Tom and Aunt Myrtles home (my dad's brother); while my mom and dad stayed with her brother, Sergio and wife Daisy at their home. (Uncle Sergio and Aunt Daisy now own and live in the home my dad's dad built- which is where my dad was born and grew up). Pretty cool huh?!!! I took alot of video here just in case the home gets destroyed someday.

I did a good job keeping the boys busy, usually outside so they did great relaxing inside at the homes we visited. Almost every day I kept up my jogging in the early morning while the boys casually woke up and watched t.v. and then we ate breakfast. Thanks Uncle Tom for your help in this. After breakfast each day we got busy with an activity at various parks to play, fish, swim in a lake, splash at a water park or do some put-put golfing and go-carting. We even joined in seeing a fantastic strong-man demo by the " Stand- Stregthn Team" a Christian group at my Uncle's church. We filled our week up staying busy and having a wonderful time visiting. Our last night was at my cousins house (Melissa's) where we ate dinner and roasted marshmallows over their campfire to make smores . It was lots of fun!!

Gray was not happy at this waterpark because prior to this trip he fractured his left wrist when rollerblading down our hills in MD. He has a splint on but was told to be careful not to get it too wet, so on this hot day he didn't get himself wet much at all and was not feeling good. Then he tripped at the maze and hurt his elbow adding to the discomfort.

Saturday after breakfast we said our goodbyes and drove to New York. We stayed with my in-laws for two nights before leaving back to Maryland Monday. (My dad had to get back to work in NY, currently doing a job there. So it was convenient to visit with Greg's folks one last time before school starts. Anita surprised me with a birthday cake and present even though my b-day isn't for another two weeks. I was grateful to be thought of and appreciated!! Thanks.)
