5K lemon ended my stressful week ironically - good

My story:

Okay, so, after a Saturday morning filled with baseball, a baby shower, and making food for the church dinner (which the boys attended without me), I drove to Frederick some 35 minutes from home to get ready for my race. I find a close parking spot, walk to the expo building for my tag, tshirt, etc. and also pick up three more for my friends race the following day. Im casually viewing the vendors and then meander my way back to the car. I sit there thinking, hum, I still have an hour and a half before my race begins. I go back, use the restroom and change into my running clothes. Again, I return to the car, this time to have a snack and make some phone calls. After calling Greg and my neighbor, Heather, (I picked up her things for her race the next day) I eat some cantalope and just relax. I drink more water as I watch runners warming-up and think, hum... that's odd, the race doesn't start for another hour and 15 minutes. After sitting for 5 minutes I hear some commotion at the track. I wonder if there is a family relay going on. I pick up my tag, keys, cell phone and granola bar and walk to the track. I ask a runner what race this is. She informs me its the 5K! What! 5K! Im in a panic!! I tell her, I thought that started at 7 p.m. She says, "Not this year. It begins an hour early." I start to grumble but that's pointless. I quickly run over to the expo building, grab 2 pins to get the tag on my shirt (I forgot this the last two trips being there) and frantically find a place to leave my cell phone and granola bar. I return to the track as the gunshot goes off!! I can't believe this! I practically missed my race!!! Im literally in the back pack with tons of runners in front and around me. So, I start jogging and weaving my way through the traffic of runners hoping I can get up to a better position. Its nearly impossible! Finally after squeezing through hundreds of runners, I get to a position where I feel like I am at a good pace and I don't want to go too much faster or I might not be able to kick in the last 200 meters. Its hot, 89 degrees, on May 1st! I grab 2 cups of water at the half way mark and drink a little and splash the rest on me. I notice at the start of the 3rd mile, many people are too hot to run and they stop to walk. Im feeling pressure but tell myself to keep going, I know its over soon. I work on my stride and even chit chatted with a lady I saw running with some weird looking foot-gloves. I round the last 200 meters and have strength to kick it in. I finish with a time just over 26 minutes. I can't believe it! Wow! You'd think I would be so mad at myself, but I chucked to myself for the first mile, thinking... "of course this is how my week would end!" I just kept laughing at myself! What a silly mistake I made! I'm glad it wasn't worse, I was tempted to take a nap in my car at one point! Then I would have missed it entirely! Can you believe it?? Crazy... but all ended good! I'm very pleased with the time I got considering the problem I was in at the beginning. (at the end of the pack, not warming up, bladder and tummy feeling full, and running with my keys!)
